Hi Gents,

Could you please help me, question is about DNV-ST-E273 2016, Appendix A, Padeye Design. At A5 we have weld check for cheek plates, in the formula there is Dch value.
There is definition missing in the code. One may try to use padeye hole diameter, but for me it would rather be 2*Rch, what do you think?

Why don’t you provide a sketch of your own detail, with sizes, dimensions, thicknesses, loads, etc. so we could see what you are doing? Also, provide the few pages of the DNV code immediately around the formula which you are questioning, along with the codes definition of the various terms, so we can see that without having to buy a copy of that code to try to help answer your question? There are probably some smart people here on E-Tips who don’t have that code, but could help you out, except we can’t see what you are doing and up against from here.

Well Rch is defined as the cheek plates radius, so logically Dch is 2 x Rch, the diameter of the cheek plates. After all, Appendix A.5 is considering the cheek plate welds, so cheek plate diameter will play a part in that.
dhengr, for reference, the standard is available at Cheers,
John

BEMPE16524, that is correct.
dhengr, what is good about DNV codes is that these are free of charge. Your advise is very good, hopefully John somehow answered my question.
JohnGP, that is right, I think similarly. Radius of diameter of the cheek plate has to be taken into account.

jiang46602, I have to disagree. The hole diameter in the cheek plate is defined in the standard as DH. Dch has to be the diameter of the cheek plate, whether or not you think it should be otherwise.

To JohnGP

you are right, the formula is used to check the weld strength between base plate and cheek plates, Dch should be diameter of the cheek plate, which is also the weld ring diameter.
