For a synchrounous generator (11kV) driven by a turbine for a co-generation plant power factor is 0.8 by supplier.

Customer wants to have power factor 0.9 in their plant. Thus, how can I incerase power factor? By using capacitor banks at 11kV or can we adjust by synchronous generator side?

Urgent reply please?

Using the generator is the cheaper/easier way as long as you remain within the generator capability curve. The upper limit for vars out operation of the generator usually is limited by field circuits. Limit of vars out changes as we change the kw out => curve gives the whole picture.
