i am new here and currently working on a project that designing sewer force main. i am wondering do i need to consider the air release valve and blow off valve for the sewer force main design? and how do the maintenance guys handle air release (sewer) when opening the valve? appreciates the advice and thanks a lot!

You are talking about 2 different valves. The air release should be installed at the high point of the forcemain. Consider the use of a manual instead of automatic air release to prevent a sewage spill in the event the valve does not fully close. Material in the sewer has been know to jam the valves and prevent closing.

The blow off valve is normally installed close to the lift station.

If you design the system properly, the air release will only occur on system startup, not during normal operations.

Thanks for the information.
I thought all the valves are operated manually!
Why the blow off valve is normally installed close to the lift station? Thanks again!

It is recommended that a clean-out or blowoff be provided at low points, but it is not generally mandatory by the reviewing agency.

Most specifiers put the blow off valve close to the lift station, probably so the clean out valve can be used to clean out the lift station.
