hello all,

I cant find a specific rule on CEC about this...

Do you need a main CB for a subpanel sitting in an industrial site's yard? It is being fed from the main AC panel (inside of the building) through a 150A branch CB. Is there a rule that dictates you need to have a main CB in the sub panel sitting in the yard?

thanks.

I don't know about the CEC, but if the sub panel is in a building or structure, there are a set of circumstances in the NEC in which you must have a main, or no more than 6 disconnecting means at the outbuilding (the so-called "6 hand rule). In the US NEC is is in sections 225.30 through 225.40. From my experience, most of what is in the NEC is in the CEC as well.

Thanks for your reply jraef,

My google search did reveal these rules in the NEC but i am having a really hard time finding anything for the CEC. This panel would be an outdoor panel so it's also not inside of another building.

Yup, i could not find anything under P&C, Disconnects, panelbaords. it's really weird.

That may fall under Work-Safe regulations.

Thanks waross,

I took a quick look. It does speak of being able to have a disconnect means that can be locked out. Which, we do it just sits in the building. I am not terribly worries about this. This AC panel will mostly be for the breaker heaters and yard lights/outlets. But figured i'd check in to see if anyone knew about the Code since i've spent literal hours going through the 2015, 2018 and the handbook just to be diligent. I went ahead and ordered it without the main CB.

If the acceptor rejects it (which i dont expect him to) i will be quick to ask him to quote the code reference.

Thanks again for both of you guy's input.
