Does AD-Merkblatter allows using ASME Section II material?

Hi

I am working with a pressure vessel fabrication using AD-Merblatter, and having difficulties to get the DIN materials in time.
So we opt for ASME material instead. Is this allowed by AD? If this is allowed, how can we can the approval? What will be the allowable stress value to be used (can we use ASME Section II part D?). Need your urgent feedback on this.

AD-Merkblatt requires harmonized materials for construction of pressure vessel as per section W0. W1,W2, please note that the use of AD 2000 goes together with PED Directive 97/23/EC.

As per PED Directive , to use non -harmonized materials, such as ASME materials, you have to prepare PMA (Particular Material Appraisal)for the proposed non-harmonized material, duly reviewed by your Notified Body . The allowable stress shall be as per material specification.

jai2705, the allowable stress is not per the material specification. In fact material specifications don't provide allowable stresses.

And PED only applies if the vessel is to be used in the european market. As corntoze doesn't say, it can only be assumed that this vessel will be operating in europe.

If the ASME material is not listed as a material that can be used by AD-Merkblatt then I doubt it is possible to design a vessel which is "strictly compliant with ADM".

However, if you know the characteristics of the ASME material (Yeild, UST etc) then AD-Merkblatt (not the ASME material spec) will provide rules for calculating the allowable design stresses. This design will be in "general compliance with ADM".

If you go down the route of being in general accordance with a code and using non-accepted materials and PED then I would advise that you meet with your NOBO or AI and have a compehensive discussion of your proposed design. Europeam NOBO's will accept "in general accordance" designs, however close co-ordination with them is advisable.
