Does NX11 support buttons using macros?

I just learned that in about a week, we are changing from NX9 to NX11. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that NX does away with macros after NX9. Well we still have several buttons that run with macros that I never changed over because I didnt know code in the past and recording a Journal didnt work. Now I know code a tiny bit but I think its gonna be a big job for me to update the buttons I will need to.

Am I worrying for nothing? Will NX11 still run the buttons that used macros?

Now that I think on it, we also still use several TBR files for many of our buttons. Will that be a problem in NX11?

Unfortunately Macros from previous versions will probably not work.

Buttons and menu files are still supported.

You can record Macros in NX 11 but you are better off recording a journal, which is supposed to be supported from version to version.

I second using journals. Although I still have (2) old macros which I still use that journaling has issues with, journaling is definitely the way to go. Especially if you want to create some C programs for automation or integration.

Macros just record menu/dialog clicks, so they are prone to breakage in any NX upgrade. In fact, any change in the NX user interface will break macros. The UI changes in NX11 were more extensive than usual, so macro breakages are more likely than usual.

Trying to keep old macros running is going to be a constant drain on your time and energy. You might be better off re-implementing the desired functions via NX/Open or SNAP.

Please dont get me wrong. I have no desires to keep macros going. The only reason I did not replace them already was because they were doing things that Journal wont record and at the time of the last change here, I didnt know any code at all to write my own. Even now, I am not very good with code, so replacing these macros will be a slow task.

I have known this was coming and have warned the bosses several times I needed more time to start changing these buttons over to journals but they never listened. Now the change over to NX11 is coming in a week and I was just hoping what I read before was different now. lol Gonna be a headache when a dozen or so buttons stop working and everyone starts complaining to me about them. lol

Thanks for the info everyone. You might find me here a lot soon asking VB code questions. lol

If you have been using the ribbon interface in NX 9, the move to NX 11 may not be too difficult. Macros tend to break with new releases, but not always. Do you have a test environment with NX 11 already installed? (if not, you should). This would be a great thing to test before the upgrade is released to the users at large.

NX9 is the first version using the Ribbon User interface, if you have customizations done , toolbars etc, they should work in NX11.
Macros might work, but might not. Macros are extremely sensitive to changes in the user interface.

If you didn't start using the ribbon UI in NX, the toolbars can be reused in NX11, but you need to add supporting files.
