Does this motor bearing get greased or oiled? 2

have a Weinman pump made in Columbus Ohio.
It is 1 1/2 HP 230V, Mdl 5ACK158.. It has a grease nipple on one end of motor case and a screw at the top on the other end of motor case in line with the grease nipple. How often should I grease it? And do I oil the screw end or take the screw out and put a nipple in and grease that end too?

The lube requirements of bearings are dependent upon type of bearing hours of use exposure to elements. We have precision bearings on our machines if over greased will heat up and self destruct, these are $800.00 a set. Also some requier use of specific grease only. I searched w/Google and found sites with tech support also many bearing suppliers offer info on this. Best advice comes from OEM.

I doubt the end without a fitting can be greased. I wouldn't try it unless there was also a vent plug on the bearing area of the end bell. Frequently the motor is manufactured with sealed bearings and the end bells are simply pugged off.

Look on the end that has the grease fitting already installed, if there is also a vent plug on the bearing area , remove it and grease until fresh grease purges out the plug. Start the motor and run for a few minutes before replacing the plug. If there is no vent plug, the grease will usually purge around the shaft to the outside. You do not want to contaminate the windings with excess grease. In any event, it won't take over a shot of grease a year to keep the bearings in tip top shape unless the pump is exposed to washdown duty, high temperatures or somesuch.

If it is in such a severe location, attention to the drains in the motor enclosure is important. There will usually be drains provided if the motor is TEFC and it may have a set of plugs so the openings on the bottom of the pump can be left open and the plugs moved to those openings on the top or sides of the motor as installed.
