Dominion Bridge was a Canadian company that used to produce steel joists. The short span steel joists had a cold formed steel 'hat' section that was used for both the top chord and the bottom chord and they were numbered in size from 2 to 6 or 8 (I think). The shape of the hat was approximately 1" horizontal, 1-1/2" downwards at a 45 degree angle, 2" horizontal, 1-1/2" upwards at a 45 degree angle and 1" horizontal. Does anyone have information on the steel yield (I think it was 55 ksi) and the section properties of the 'hat' sections?

The building was constructed about 30 years ago... roughly 1970. DB used to fabricate short, intermediate and long span steel joists. The short span and possibly the intermediate span used the hat sections. I used to have catalogues, but they have disappeared over the decades. DB is no longer a company, but, the hat section was proprietary and may have been used by other firms in the US.

thanks for the response, Dik
