Hi,

I've a stainless steel pressure vessel Dext.500m with an elliptical head thk 6mm, designed acc. ASME VIII Div.1.
In the center of the head there's an opening D.int.70mm with an external donut set-on welded as reinforcement, height 15mm.
This ring works obviously as a nozzle with an inside pressure.
Is it allowed by code to cut out this ring from a plate (acc.to SA-240)? Or what kind of test do I need to perform to accept it?

Thank you

ElCidCampeador, what you describe sounds similar to a studding outlet, Fig UW-40 (a-1), (a-2).

I don't believe it is prohibited to make these from plate.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

I'm not sure what the question is exactly. Are you concerned that the head is dished and the reinforcement plate is cut from flat plate?

Yes but the problem is not the use of plate itself.

I mean, nozzles usually can be built using a flat plate, rolled and then longitudinally welded...but in this case you cut a ring from a plate, which is not the same in terms of flow lines of the steel of the plate.
