I am working with a Double Suction BB1 pumps with Flush Plan 13

As I suppose, one of the successful requirement for plan 13 is that the Stuffing Box Pressures is higher than the sunction pressure.

For double suction pumps, is that met?

Anyone knows how to calculate/estimate the Stuffing Box Pressure?

Thanks

Did some research, seems For double suction pumps, the seal chamber pressures is equal to the suction pressure.

Anyone knows why? Thanks

For a pump of this configuration, the stuffing box (seal chamber) is located next to the impeller eye. There is no source of pressure that could cause the seal chamber pressure to be any higher than suction. An API plan 13 is not recommended. There would be no flow. An API plan 11 or 14 should be used instead.

Review the cross-sectional drawing of the pump and it should be obvious and apparent why the seal chamber pressure can be no higher than suction.

Thanks JJ.

What's the pros/cons for 14 compared to 11 in this application (BB1 double suction pump)?

The vendor recommended not to use 14 but 11.

Thanks.

I see no reason to use Plan 14 in this pump. The piping is more complex and expensive. Plan 11 provides adequate flow in this arrangement.
