DOUBLER PLATE WELD.

HEY GUYS,

IS THERE ANY ISSUE WITH WELDING A DOUBLER PLATE USING AN INTERMITTENT WELD (NOT CONTINUOUS).

THIS IS BECAUSE THE SHOP FORGOT TO ADD THE VENT HOLES FOR GALVANIZING, AND WE ARE THINKING OF USING THE INTERMITTENT WELD TO COMPENSATE THAT.

You would have to give a lot more information about your "doubler plate" to get any informed answers. For instance, is the doubler plate being used to reinforce the shear capacity of a heavily loaded beam? Or what?
 
IT IS USED AS A REINFORCEMENT FOR THE COLUMNS FOR THE PANEL ZONE SHEAR LIMIT STATE AT THE MOMENT FRAMES LOCATIONS.

This is a question for the connection designer/engineering of record. Without knowing the specifics, no one here can comment on this. Even if specifics are provided, you should still clarify with the designer.

Also, you should check with the galvanizer, I don't think intermittent welds provide adequate venting. Only way I can see intermittent welds being acceptable as vent holes is if the fit up extremely poor, which would bring into question the quality of the welds. When in doubt, always check with the galvanizers, because if they don't like the venting you've provided, they're not shy about adding their own vent holes.
