I wish to transfer a load from one angle aluminum to another angle aluminum (6061-T6) that is immediately on top of it via a single side weld.
Any advice, references.
Thanks.

OP again.

I believe the term is - angles are "back to front".

Obviously,
with only a 'single side weld' as you describe as a connection, you probably don’t have that weld running through the centroid of the angle section. That will induce a moment into both of your angles - and as you know, angles and moments don't really mesh. We try to keep our angles in a pure a tension as possible (unless it is designed for of course).

I personally had a bit of a nasty experience with angles in tension that I forgot (or probably dismissed as insignificant is probably the better was of phrasing it) to check just for that condition (eccentric tension) - and to my surprise the behavior of the angle during a load test was not favorable - it bowed out like you wouldn't believe - and it was in tension (you would think the tension would counter-act the bending and try to straighten it). Of course when I modeled the eccentricity, sure enough, the model predicted exactly the same thing - bowing out on a 45 degree angle... shudders - i was lucky on that job that the oversight was fixable at very low costs.

just be aware that the load should be transferred through the centroid of the angle (or as close as possible). Preferably this is accomplished with a group of welds instead of just one.

You should be careful welding on aluminum since the base metal heat affected zone can loose its temper and become very weak.
