Good Afternoon Everybody,

I'm currently working on design for cable stayed bridge with overall length of 196m. Any idea on determining the initial cable force for further analysis? What's the method usually being used by the community?

Sounds like you are not a beginner engineer but a student studying engineering.

This isn't the forum for that.

Cheer. Nice to meet you. Yeap, currently a engineer with zero experience. looking for resources and keep on learning here :D

I'm 20 years into my career as a bridge designer, and I've never done a cable stayed bridge, nor a bridge of that length at all.

This is not a project for a beginner to fly solo on, or even take the lead on. You should have an experienced designer to learn from by checking the his or her design.

oh dear ... what could possibly go wrong ?

the internet (well, forums like this) is not the place to learn how to do this.
you need professional help (not the psychiatric kind).

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

The deck is considered to be a continuous beam; the cables are considered to be the supports; the force in the cables (and the deck) are based on the inclination of the cables. However, before you worry about the cable forces, has anyone come up with the span arrangement - one, two, three spans? one pylon or two? stay pattern - harp or fan? There's a lot more to it. It's been over 20 years since I done one, probably forgot to mention a few things.

196 m is a decent length; not something for a beginner.

"What's the method...."

Employ experienced qualified designers....
