Downfall of Fault Current Limiters...

Considering things like fault levels and the subsequent use of fault current limiters to combat high magnitudes I was wondering what issues does this introduce though?

Will having a big lump of resistance/reactance in the system will cause problems in the post-fault phase etc?!

This vaguely rings a bell with my past electrical theory, and it would be nice for somebody to confirm my suspicions.

Is there any other disadvantages of using FCL's in a system during fault scenarios?! Thought I would ask here before I carry out a 'googlefest'.

Many Thanks

Common system changes can result in raising the fault level that may exceed existing equipment rating:
• Larger transformers result in higher fault-duty levels, forcing the replacement of existing buswork and switchgear not rated for the new fault duty.
• Additional generation raises the fault duty throughout a system
• Older but still operational equipment gradually becomes underrated through system growth; some equipment, such as transformers in underground vaults or cables, can be very expensive to replace
• Customers request parallel services that enhance the reliability of their supply but raise the fault duty

What type of fault current limiter are you talking about?

One potential disadvantage of a fault limiter such as a reactor is that it may take a large current limiting fuse out of it's current limiting range. When this happens the fuse can let through significantly more energy because it takes longer to clear.
