There is NO direct downward compatibility in NX between versions. The best that you could do, depending on what sort of data that you wish to access in the an older version of NX, is to export your newer NX part file data using some sort of intermediate file format that was compatible with the older version. For example, if the only thing that you needed to preserve was the actual solid and/or surface models (no curves or points) then you could Export the newer part model as a versions of a Parasolid file that was compatible with the older version of NX and then import that Parasolid model into the older version of NX. At least you would have preserved the solid/surface model data. If you needed to include curves and points as well and perhaps Drawing data, then you're going to have to use a standards-based neutral format like STEP or IGES.

BTW, this is not unique to NX. I'm not aware of any full-function CAD product that allows newer part files to be opened in older versions of their software while preserving access to the full complement of data without lose of functionality or accuracy.

Hi John,
Thanks a lot for your insights.we can convert the file from the higher version to lower version in catia using utility tools.later we can recognise using feature recognition options.Any way will check this out.thank you.

If you have Wireframe and points along with Sheets and solids you'll have to use IGES or STEP.
If its just Sheets and solids use Parasolid Export and select 17.0-NX4.0 from the dropdown.
Then open the resulting .X_t file in NX4

I suspect that's what the Catia utility does for you automatically. If I recall correctly downgrading a Catpart to an older version makes it dumb
