Drafting question threaded holes + depth etc

Hi,
Have searched a few posts but not quite found what I`m looking for.

Basically the problem is that when you use the "thread dimension tool" - yes ok it then magically says "M6"

Ok great, but the machinist wants something more like
"M6 x 1mm, drill 5mm OD tap M6 x 25mm deep to point".

Or at LEAST have the hole + thread depths without doing a section view of every different threaded hole!

Now I can easily just mod the dimension MANUALLY to have all that stuff. But I view this as very dangerous practise as the hole + thread depths are then non-associative. Cant count the number of times I`ve spent hours re-checking drawings after a solid model modification - manually re-typing ALL the hole depths etc. What a pain.

So the question is, is there a way to get it to display the hole + thread depths that will update?

I attach a screenshot to help illustrate what I mean

Have you tried the Thread/Tap analysis tool to check the 3D model (Part Design workbench)? Does that help you?

Are you manually machining this part, or using CATIA to NC program it?
 
I have the same question (we are manually machining the parts, so we need the callouts on the drawing).

If someone knows how to get this information into the drafting workbench with association and relative ease, that would be a big help.

The parts are going to be CNC manufactured.

So most of the stuff comes from CAD anyway, but if the drawing doesn`t match CAD its still bad-news-bears.

I have NO idea how Airbus manage to make aeroplanes with drafting like this!

Text templates should do what you want. But I find them cranky to set up, so it might take a few goes to get it right. Have a look at the documentation for text templates.
 
Simply show a sectional view. Job done and it's associative.
 
Just for the record, I think it's a good idea to keep your notation common.

Your sample is a bit of a mixed bag, regarding spacing and inclusion/exclusion of units.

It's also common practice to note Ø6mm as opposed to 6Ø, and M6 x 1.0, M8 x 1.25 etc.

Keeping a common format also helps the machinist.

You can help your machinist if you are giving him a text file with holes parameters coming from the 3d model (drawings should be updated from the 3D model, isn't it?)

The parameters can be extracted throu scrpt (there is an example here on forum just for some of them).

Check the on-line documentation (v5automation.chm), there are also few examples there (search for Changing the Hole Parameters).

You can obtain something like this:

Side note: drop the drill callout all together. This is over specification that may not actually be correct since tap method and even material type requires different size drills to be used. It's up to the machinist (regardless of method) to use the appropriate tools to meet the final spec of M6x1. If you have a drill depth, then specify that without calling out a drill OD.
