Drafting Views using Faceted Reps

We are currently doing loads of work with 'Product Outline' we have pretty much mastered the modelling side of things and are now looking how we can use this product outline in the drafting world for very large assembly drawings.

Every thing seems to working well at the moment, base views, section views etc.

Question.

We have a need to create a section view which also shows the background data. I am currently trying 'Render Sets' is this the correct method, or is there a better process?

Okay, I really don't know what your question is so I'll summarize the topic.

Try setting the view preferences such that the base view option is set to faceted. This will produce proper hidden line view based on the faceted versions of the model. This is a lot quicker for large assemblies, but you should also try to excise from the visible geometry anything that you don't need, (i.e. you may wish to show a vehicle but don't need to see the engine or drivetrain, so you would filter them out, with hiding the components in a view using explosions or just by means of creating suitable reference sets, and even by using layers if wish).

You can load the models with the faceted reference sets rather than solids which will work fine up until the point where you start cutting sections. Dimensioning will work on these views and will in many cases be accurate, or accurate enough. Because you're working with facets some approximation occurs but this can be managed by adjusting the coarseness of the view preferably prior to adding it in the view preferences. Obviously for some dimensions on curves and splines the accuracy will be questionable, but it more often than not gets radii right.

When you create sections it needs to load the solid model geometry in order to work, but should attempt to do so automatically. Here's the thing though that you ought to test for yourself because I don't know for sure in NX-2 whether it uses only full geometry for the background of the sectioned views. I suspect it might and you risk making the drawing unmanageable in doing so. You're also going to need to load the solid model reference sets in order to get the results you'll need in these sections.
