Drawing dims only option in config.pro

I'm struggling to REALY understand the implications of the config.pro option called "create_drawing_dims_only".

I've had 2 experienced ProE users give me conflicting instructions on what this means. One guy says this means that the dimensions are "static" in the 2D and won't adjust if the feature dimensions are changed in the model. The other says that is hogwash and everything will be fine as long as you don't change the feature #s.

I'm particularly interested in how this should best be set so that one person can still be working on the 3D model while another is working on the 2D drawing (each with their own version of the 3D model in their workspace.)

Help!

We always use: create_drawing_dims_only YES

That way any additional dimensions made in drawing mode are only saved with the drawing. Opening the drawing, adding a created dimension and saving the drawing will not modify the model.

These dimensions are NOT static. When the model changes these dimensions will update as long as Pro/E can find the references used to create the dimension. If you create the dimension referencing edges that disappear later due to changes then the dimension will change color and you will get an error message. You can right click on the dimension and reattach it to the model.

This becomes really useful if you have one site supplying the model to another site making tooling etc (outside of PDM). If you save your tooling drawings with create_drawing_dims_only NO and the design group "throws another model over the wall", all your dimensions will be lost because they don't exist in the new model.

Thanks dgallup.. You perfectly described the situation that I was trying to work around.
