I have an assembly file that has two or more drawing files associated with it. One of the drawing files has about 10 sheets, and the other has 14 sheets of details. When I open the first drawing file, it opens just fine. When I open the other drawing file, the assembly model opens also. What have I done for this to happen? I dont want the assembly to open when i'm opening detail drawings.

If you don't plan to edit the drawing, open the drawing in view-only mode. This will give you the as-built version of the model for that revision drawing. You will be able to view all the sheets this way and print. You won't be able to save as a different file format though.

If you do plan to edit the drawing, the model will load, and it will load the latest models, unless you have a PDM system that retrieves the as-built versions of the model.
Hope that helps.

Read up on "Rapid Draft" drawings in the help file. This is a way of saving drawings so that they don't always call up the model data.

Pay attention to the "out-of-sync" watermark options.

I guess my real question is why the one drawing file opens the assembly, and the other does not? Neither opens with an out of date notification. Maybe I've just come up with an answer just now. The drawing file that opens the assembly has a detail of a sub assembly as one of the sheets. Does this fact trigger any answers?

Boborush,
Check the options on the drawing that opens the model automatically.
Under Performance, make sure Rebuild assembly on load is NOT set to Always.
Mine is set to Prompt.

Boborush,
Check Tools -> System Option -> External References -> Load referenced documents -> choose Prompt or Never

If it were a system option, would not both drawings load its associated assembly?

Not if the options were changed in the individual drawing files.
