I have posted several questions lately regarding slow drawing regen times for high quality drawing views with large assemblies. I have worked through all of the recomendations and we still see drawings taking 15-30 minutes to resolve everything on an assembly with a total of 2000-2400 parts. Computer specs, are dual Xeon's 2.4 533 fsb 1 gig ram win2000, quadro 4 750 video card (128 mb). We don't "think we are into virtual memory", is there a way to benchmark what we are doing and accurately predict performance gains with an upgraded system?

Thanks for your help. Sorry to continue to chase this slow rabbit.

1 gig of RAM really isn't enough for those machines. You should try running XP SP1. I think there is better performance in that OS. the 750 has alittle age to it, especially on a dual Xeon machine? What is your VM set too? Whether your using it or not you should still set it up correctly.

15-30 minutes fully resolved 2000-2400 part high quitly drawing... I think those are decent numbers. Do you use Lightweight assemblies?

You should really post this in the original thread you started, instead of starting a new one on the exact same thing as before.

Why not contact your VAR to ask if they will open your model on one of their computers. Chances are they will have the latest & greatest machine to allow peak SW performance for customer "WOW" effect.

If your VAR won't help, try SW direct ... or change your VAR to one that will.

That is not always the case CBL! - I don't run near the machines some of customers do, but I'm still required to open files like above if required too. A tech support machine is always pushed to the max everyday... well most day anyways, and to tell you the truth I think I have the least amount of problems versus some of our customers. There are a lot of issues with SW05, but some of them I'm always unable to reproduce.

A normal day for my machine:

My machine has 3 versions of SW (3, 4, & 5) on it.

I'm always running 3 web-based Databases, plus 1-2 versions of SW always running with all add-ins on, Outlook 2000, Windows explorer (1-3 windows open). I try to keep a 15 part assembly open in both versions of SW so I can jump from a part or a drawing rather quickly. I also have a new part open with nothing in it, just in case. PDMworks is started and running in the background.

I do all this on 1 gig of RAM, Quadro 1100FX 53.03 drivers, 2.39 Ghz CPU, XP SP1 Machine.

There are times I see slow downs with SW and when I do... I perform those Maintenance tips I have in the FAQ section and do a repair on my SW. This always seems to fix my problems for both SW04 and 05.

But as for your problem Tap - See all the other posts above.

In your previous thread559-105592 you posted:-

I burned all files to a cd and ran them on my home machine, 2.53 ghz 533 fsb 512 ram, 128 mb nvidia game card. The Assys opened much faster, and the drawings were both created much faster, regenerated faster. I was having a problem with alternate position views not showing all of the configuration changes in the drawings created at work, no problem at home.

... so why do you need benchmark specs? Your test proved that you had "no problem". Also you stated:-

I have lost somewhere between 350 and 900 manhours of production on this!

... you could have bought several really nice machines for the value of the man hours you have lost. so again, why do you need benchmark specs?

However if you do upgrade make sure the OS is NOT XP-SP2. We just bought a new machine & thats what it came with ... the supplier would not put SP1 on it!!! [turkey]So now I have to reformat & load SP1. [curse]
