Drawing Templates 2

I have Customer Defaults set for "No Dual Dimensions".

I have created two Drawing Templates, one just using the Customer Defaults as is, and one in which I've changed the dimensioning to Dual Dimensions.

However, selecting the template that should provide me with Dual Dimensions does not.

My understanding is that the Blank uses the Customer Defaults and the Templates can be independently configured. Is this correct ?

The setting of the template part should be what you get, when you create a new drawing based upon that template. The way to check is to open the template part itself to check there.

Hudson,

I open the Template file, set my Dual Dimension style and save the file.

I then create a drawing, selecting that Template, but the Dual Dimension style is not how it was set.

The only thing that I can think of is checking whether it calls up the correct template.

Good call, it is not using the correct template.

However, the syntax in the PAX file looks good,

Thanks Anthony, I'll check that out.

I think I have a syntax issue in the PAX file though, as it doesn't appear to be using the correct template file.

The customer defaults apply to a truly new file (a 'blank' file on the template menu); if you use template files, most of your settings will come from the template file. I say most of the settings because there is a mix of part specific (saved with the part) and session specific (only in effect during your session) settings. For this specific case (dual dimensions) the setting will come from the template file.

I use template files and I like having them on the new file menu, but at the same time I think it adds a little complexity to the situation. When you use the templates you get a new file in the same sense that a 'save-as' gives you a new file. Your customer defaults may or may not apply to the 'new' file.

If you are setting up templates for your company, I would advise making the changes to the customer defaults (decide what the user has control over and what you want locked down) then create your templates from these settings.

I'd always be concerned to have the correct template working regardless of which version of defaults you wish to use. Anthony will of course be right, but given the choice of the two settings I prefer to just modify and save my templates as the WYSIWYG solution to managing my site standards. Call me silly, but there are other aspects of your templates that I'm sure you'd prefer to work correctly.

That said you still have to figure out what is going wrong with the paths in your pax file. To that end if you're using it from a palette try deleting the palette and re-adding it from the edited file that you have checked. And go down the line from there checking what could be going wrong with your search paths.

It was actually using the correct Template. Although, I couldn't determine that from the Part History.

It was the customer default that I had to change.
