I have an assembly that uses a junction box that another user modeled. The junction box was modeled using protrusions and cuts,(not an assembly). In my assembly model I created an assembly cut on just the front of the junction box. On my assembly drawing I need to show two views of the box. One view of the box with no assembly cut and another view with the assembly cut, (to show the box interior). Can an assembly cut be shown in one view, but not the other? If so how? We are running 2001 with I-link. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA for your help.

You can create a family table for the part and add the Assembly cut as a feature

Name F#(Asm cut)
Box_w_cut Y
Box_wo_cut N

Then add a view for each Family Table instance

Hi WHR

I agree with Mjcole in the set up to get your views.
We here have 2 unwritten rules, avoid/don't use assembly cuts, creates problems later. Do not make make assembly parts. Both of these features are nice for one shot deals but when you get into multiple variations, your hands are tied usually because the features have references to something you want to change in the future i.e. to an edge or datum.

WRH,

Here are some alternative solutions to your problem that might work:

1) Create a section view through the junction box that cuts just below the cover to show the interior components.

2) Create a cross section in the assembly as described above, and then add a "rathole" to the exterior view of the junction box to see the interior components. The commands to do this are Views, Modify View, Boundary, Add Breakout.
