drilling and tapping?

Hi i'm a newby in this machining industry and i want to ask if anybody knows where i can find info on drilling and tapping for sfm and feed,and also what is the formula for sfm and feed reduction when the holes are deep.Thank you

Recommended for you

Machinery's Handbook or the drill manufacturer. For "deep" holes you don't want to experiment with, talk to the tooling rep. If they don't know, they'll get you in contact with someone that does.
 
Drilling:


Tapping speed:

A ballpark figure might be to start out around 50% of the RPM you'd use for a high speed steel twist drill of the same diameter, then adjust up or down based on results


Tapping feed:

IPM = inches per minute = RPM * thread lead (lead = pitch on a single-start thread)

IPR = inches per revolution = thread lead
