Dry type transformers

Hello,

Besides Hammond does anyone know of an alternative manufacture of dry type transformers in Canada.

I have seen delta, and a couple others but the quality is not there.

We deal in voltages from 13.8kV right down to 120V, and sizes from 3000kVA to 50VA.

Check with ABB in Canada, Siemens, Pauwels Transformers among others.

Also, check if any transformer manufacturer in North America could qualify to provide a transformer exempt of custom duties under the NAFTA agreement between Canada, USA and Mexico. If so, probably you would like to explore with Waukesha Transformer, GE/Prolec in Mexico, if they are capable to provide this product locally or from other plants in the region.

Great point about the new bio fill xfmr. I will say however, that there is an increase in size (I don't recall how much) from a standard oil filled xfmr and the bio filled one. Just something to keep in mind.

I went out for some pricing on the bio fill transformers mainly because their flash point is so good.

However, cost wise and maintenance wise they were not even close to what I could get for the dry type....

I work in the mining industry and the units are mostly portable and well, abused... still can't beat dry type.

Hi Tulum,

I suggest to consider in the analysis the following:

a) The standard BIL of dry type transformeris is lower than the oil filled transformer. For additional price, there is available special order BIL of 95 or 110 kV.

b) Check the outdoor enclosure application for a dry type unit.

c) The weight of oil type transformer is heavier than the dry unit. Therefore additional effort to relocate the transformer may be required.
