Hello,

we are drying a powder in a conical dryer under vacuum. The problem we are facing is that the wet powder contains HCl that start to attack the vacuum pump (stainless steel).
Is there any way to prevent this?
The only thing i can think of is using a little tank we have on site as a scrubber. We put it between the dryer and the vacuum pump, fill it with a caustic solution and get the gas flow coming from the dryer to bubble into it (deep pipe).
Comments or suggestion more than welcome!

Depending on the size of your equipment this would work.

We have a very large system that we have to have two scrubbers in series to get rid of the HCl. We found that a bubbling the gas wasn't very efficient and had to go to a circulating system with a larger contact area. If I'm not mistaken the they used plastic Pall Rings or Berl Saddles.

The best solution would be to get a vacuum pump that can handle the HCl. Though again you have to handle the exhaust from the vacuum pump. Just remember that HCL vapors concentrate in droplets/condensation to a very concentrated form.

What is the material of construction of the other equipment, dryer, piping, etc.
