I have a problem with Dual Dimensioning as follows;

I want to be able to show Dual Dimensioning for some dimenions only, while some will be in Primary and some in Secondary.

How do I do this?

I know this sounds crazy but I want to create a soft copy of an original hard copy drawing. The original was done this way, e.g. a metric box section welded into a frame with inch primary dimensions.

Thanks in Advance

Well, here's a tedious way to do it, but it at least preserves the relationship so that if the dimension value changes, so does the displayed dual dimension

1. In part mode, go to tools > relations, and define variables for the dimensions you want shown as dual, such that the values of the variables are the values of the dimensions in the units you want (For example, your relations could be: standard_dim1 = d4/25.4; standard_dim2 = d7/25.4; etc.)

2. In the drawing, right click the dimension to be shown as dual and select properties, then choose the dimension text tab. Type “[&<variable name>]” next to the @D of the text. (For example, the text would be: @D [&standard_dim1]). This should now show the dimension in both units.

Good luck!

mburlone,

Thanks for that. Very tedious, but it should work. I had hoped that there would be a more straightforward way.

I found this in a reference doc on my computer:

Dual Dimensioning Question:

I can not get the dual dimensioning option to work on a drawing. I have gone into "advanced" " modify val" and tried to select the dual_dimensioning option from "no" to "yes" but the system will not save this change. How to activate this feature for a drawing?

These are three options for dual-dimensioning. There is no YES option.

DUAL_DIMENSIONING NO Controls format of dimension display. If set to 'no', displays a single value for dimensions.

DUAL_DIMENSIONING primary[secondary] Displays dimensions with primary units (established by the model) on top and secondary units on the bottom.

DUAL_DIMENSIONING secondary[primary] Displays dimensions with secondary units on top and primary units on the bottom. This is not recommended. secondary Displays only the secondary dimensions of the drawing, as if they were primary. This is not recommended.
