Has anyone had success trying to draw/design ductwork in Catia? I’m trying to model in 20”+ diameter ducts, with all different angles (30 degree elbows, 45 degree elbows 75 degree elbows etc..) I’ve tried using part design with multiple part bodies, but then the ends/edge of my elbow doesn’t project in my drawing, and piecing each part together in an assembly seems wrong...too long to complete. Does anyone have any hints tips suggestions?

Thanks,
Bacvar

There are several HVAC products in CATIA V5 customized for design/drawing of ducting systems. It includes a catalog of common duct shapes. Here's a link to the overview:
I guess if that too much, the Generative Sheetmetal product would be a good tool to use.

But, you should be able to use Product Design and Assembly Design, if those are all the tools you have.

- I'd try to setup some design tables to parameterize the different shapes and sizes.

- Maybe setup a special 3d layout (skeleton) to help with positioning the ducts in the assembly.

- Drawings should be complete. Are all parts modeled as solids, or do you have some surface geometry also? Is the Work Object set to the PartBody?

Hi Jackk

Thanks for the reply. I don't currently have the HVAC products, but I'm working on getting a license for it. I do however have the Generative Sheetmetal product loaded. I don't really know how I would design duct runs using that module though? Any quick suggestions? We do have a library started of many different elbows, fittings etc... the issue is positioning our centerline. We can't seem to find the best way to design it. Using part design with multiple part bodies, or constraining multiple parts in an assembly. Different designers have tried different methods, but all seem too cumbersome in the end?

Thanks,
Bacvar
