I came across ductwork insulation a few years ago that was glued to the duct (I think) and was foil faced but was made of a armaflex type material. It was very durable. Does anybody know what type this might have been? Im using ordinary rockwool foil faced insulation in a traficable ceiling space and it is in tatters....

Closed cell neoprene insulation comes (also)with foil on one side but the thickness of the insulation increases, for same duct and ambient conditions, if you go with a foil faced one. They say, this is to avoid condensation on foil face. I had been speaking to Armaflex to give some calculation back up for one year and I just got one. I didn't yet check it.

PS: This is something to do with emissivity of aluminium.

Also known as pre-insulated ducting. Saves lot of installation time, is very light as compared to conventional GI ducting + insulation.

These come in panels and are to be formed into ducts using manuacturer-supplied tools and tackles. PAL, Italy are the pioneers in this field. Maybe there are others too.
