Hi All,

I am having a look at DW172 for guidelines on commercial kitchen ventilation canopy, the table 3: Canopy factors mentions open both ends, open one end and closed both ends canopies. Can someone shed some light on what is the difference among these options?

Thanks!

This is just a guess as I don't have DW172. Both options would have a canopy butting a wall behind the cooking appliances, thereby sealing any airflow from the back of the canopyf. The first option would have the front open to air flow and both sides with sheet metal blocking the airflow. The second option would have the front and both ends open to airflow.

I paste here the reply I had from a manufacturer:

If we had a canopy against a back wall and it sits in a corner the hood would be a wall canopy open 1 end. If it simply sits in the middle of a long wall this would be open both ends, if the canopy has a wall at each end obviously it is closed both ends…
