Hello,

I never studied Dynamic analysis & all my exp is limited to Static Analysis. Recently I switched my job, where I had to work on dynamic analysis too.
I know that Dynamic is a complex subject & cannot be mastered in a short span of time.
Can someone refer me a refernce material where it explains the basic concepts without going deeper in to complex equations. Rightnow Iam looking for basic concepts that helps me to work with the analysis softwares available in the market enough.

Thanks

There are many dynamics textbooks out there, here is but one:

There's a good chance that whoever wrote the textbook you used for your statics course also wrote a dynamics textbook so search for that if you liked you statics book. In short, as you probably are aware, statics applies to systems with no acceleration whereas dynamics applies to systems with acceleration. Good luck,

I've never been all that satisfied with existing books on structural dynamics (and, I've got a lot of them!). Too much emphasis on the math and not enough emphasis on understanding or applying the general concepts.

If you're looking for something geared towards a specific analysis program then you might want to consider taking day 3 of the RISA-3D training course. The emphasis is on teaching you how to use RISA-3D for dynamic analysis. So, the class focuses mostly on practical applications and less on theory. However, when I re-wrote the manual recently I added in some more advanced examples problems for reference material. Examples which go over the theory without getting bogged down in the math. Quick, back of envelope type examples to take some of the mystery out of dynamic analysis and allow you to validate the computer results. I even added an example which uses Eigen value analysis results to produce spectral forces for each mode (using an excel spreadsheet), then combines these modal forces together and compares them to the actual RISA response spectra results.

Obviously, this training course is most valuable to RISA users. So, if you use another program then it won't be as useful for you. If you are interested below is a link to our website where you can see a schedule for our training classes. This year, we are only offering Day three at the end of May and beginning of November (in California) as well as October in Minneapolis.

Oh, he was asking about structural dynamics. I suppose that makes sense on a structural forum...

Yes, I was asking about structural dynamics..

One of the best texts I have on the subject is ‘Structural Dynamics: Theory and Application’, by: Tedesco, et al. One of the few structural dynamics texts I have read that treat blast loading, wave propagation (in solids), and some other specialty areas. (In addition to covering the fundamentals and seismic loading.)

The book does have some errors, but its pretty good.
