Hello,

New user and this is my first post here, I've read the rules and hope I'm not breaking any.

My question is in regards to the units used in ASTM E283.

I am given max air infiltration specifications for windows and doors in cfm/ft, but it seems like it is industry standard to report in cfm/ft2.

I don't know if I'm overthinking this or not, but is it possible to convert between the two without further information?

I've talked to a vendor and was told that per length is for operable doors and windows while the per area is for fixed windows. Every spec I've seen for operable doors and windows is given in per area.

For example, I have a door's spec that has an allowable air infiltration of 0.5 cfm/ft2, and the requirement we're supposed to meet is 0.01 cfm/ft.

Is it as simple as adding up the crack length of the door/window, multiplying it by the requirement to get cfm, then dividing the cfm by the area of the door/window to get cfm/ft2?

Thank you in advance.
