Hello,
for determination of the acceleration from earthquake, the first natural frequency of the part has to be evaluated to determine, if you have rigid body motion (for a high natural frequencies) or if a response analysis has to be performed.
Which natural frequency is normaly used for this: the undamped or the damped natural frequency ?

Thanks

This is somewhat outside my area, and you're obviously not getting much of a response. I'm assuming that since you posted this in the nuclear forums, you're interested in determining earthquake responses for a nuclear plant.

Have you done a search on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's website to see if any of the NUREG's or regulatory guides cover your question? I came across a recently issued regulatory guide 1.208, "Performance-Based Approach to Define the Site-specific Earthquake Ground Motion" which references a couple NUREGs (available in the NRC's online electronic system), but I'm not sure whether it addresses your question or not.
