Is there a tool to copy a detail from paperspace(including viewport geometry, paper space dimensions and text) to a new drawing and maintain the paperspace annotation.

I always use edit ---> copy from reference drawing and edit
---> paste in new drawing.

i understand that much, but when you use viewports, you cannot take the geometry in the viewport and the dimension in paper space at the same time. Is there a tool that does this?

What version of Autocad are you running? Can you use Autocad Design Center to copy the whole layout from one dwg to another??

Do you want to copy beween Layout tabs or between Dwgs?

Dear tzinger,
There is no perfect solution for your problem. But I suggest you to check the command LAYOUT, Template option.

You may try creating a xref of the original sheet. Binding it as an insert, exploding it, and then copy the layout items separately. Like it was said before, there does not seem to be a simple solution to your quandry.

Tzinger,

I do not know why your dimensions do not transfer
from one drawing to the next. I use ACAD2000 and
it seems to work fine. I could see a problem
transferring something in the metric to something
in inches as being a problem, but not certain why
they do not transfer unless you do not have the
same layer definitions in both the same. Maybe
too, I fully do not understand your question.

while using version 2002,I have my objects in model space and my dimensions and other text on paper space. I want to copy a detail(including the objects(mspace) and the dimensions(pspace) to an existing drawing. when i select the things i want to copy only the ones in the particular space that i am in highlight. (example:mspace grabs only the objects)....is there a tool that will grab the objects in model space and paperspace at the same time and copy them into another drawings model space and paperspace?

I have not been able to copy paper space objects using xref or insert - maybe I have not done it correctly.

As dbaird said, you can use the windows clipboard copy and paste commands, but you will need to use them once for paper space objects and then again for model space objects.

The viewports themselves do not always copy correctly - sometimes it is easier to recreate them. You will also need to reassociate all your dimensions that are in paper space to the model space features. I do not know of another way to do it.
