i want to print off a list of parts used in an assembly, and their quantities, but don't need the rest of the crap that comes with it.
Solid edge has an easy to use list function where you can specify what it will list and in what order, i can't find in the help where i can do this with NX3

Create an assembly and then in drafting create a parts list. Format the parts list to only include what you wish. Once you have a parts list select the parts list, puch MB3 (Right Mouse Button) over the top of the parts lists object and select the Export option. You will get 3 options, the listing window, a text file, or to a browser which will allow you to capture the parts list as an HTML file. You can even select formating options, such as comma or tab delimited entries which will allow your test file to be opened in a Spreadsheet.

Anywya, that's your best bet since you will 100% control over the content and format of your data as well as what sort of file will you save the resutls in.

You can also pull up the ANT and having formatted that as suits me export to a spreadsheet, using Windows if you have Excel then you're laughing :)

Good Luck

can't i just find the text file that controls the "list components" and change its fields, because i want it to be quick, and the assembly is so big, the session fails if i try to create a drwg of the complete bus

Yes for large assemblies it may be easier to dump the ANT to excel or html. At least in excel you can edit the result to tidy up before you print it out if necessary.

Best of Luck

one more question, what is ANT searching the documentation didn't come up with anything ?

ANT = Assembly Navigator

Right click in the white space and you can configure the columns you want and the order they appear. Then pack/unpack and collapse or expand the items as desired before exporting to spreadsheet or browser.

that was easy ... thanks....
