I recently started using AutoCAD 2004, up from 2000, and am working with multiple layouts.

How may I create text boxes in the various layouts to mirror the text in the first layout? Hence, when text in the first layout changes, the other layouts change accordingly.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You could create your text in model space and make viewports that show the text on the layout tabs.

How about the 'gatte' command from express tools - relating to a block and its attributes.

Copy the block into various layouts. Then in the first layout use gatte, select the attribute and write the text you want. You are then asked if this should also be applied to the other blocks in the drawing, yes, and bob's your uncle.

This may help, when putting in the value (right click) and insert a FIELD instead. If the fields are constant among the block, they should update. Otherwise you can create a little macro.

I think borgunits idea is better. It is maybe better though to forget blocks and just insert a field within an Mtext. Fields are new to me but seems to work well. Set the fieldeval variable to 16 for autoupdate.

Question for Borgunit - is it possible to create user defined fields? (I used the drawing properties fields - author, subject etc but you quickly run out of fields)

Cheers. Sean.

great, thanks for the replies. it's nice to have a few methods of approaching the same problem. the block method does work but inserting a field into the mtext box doesnt seem to be an option under Acad 2004. Might have to upgrade if that is the case.
