Editing 3d DWG files for use in a 2dCad Program 1

My employer has some cad files a prior employee made with ACAD 2000. He had been instructed to draw some isometric sketches in 2d but made them as actual 3d files. He and the program he had are gone.

We have Autodesk Quickcad and when the files are opened the z-plane is flattened but does not look anthing like the preview shown before the file is open.

Is there a low cost or free program that can be used to open these, rotate the views , and flatten everything to 2d?

I am not familar with QuickCAD but if you can get a hold of AutoCAD (I know, I know), you could rotate to get the views you want. Export them as WMF, insert them back in your drawing and then explode them back to lines. You should have a flat 2d ISO then. Just one suggestion.

Ok-
I know. I didn't mention how you lock the viewport you make so that it'll hide when you print. It's easy.

command: MVIEW
chopose the HIDEPLOT option. Answer "ON", and pick the viewport you've rotated the part in to the desired "isometric" view. Do your "hide" again as usual, but now that you've set that viewport to hide in plots, it'll hide each plot, without further intervention.

Thanks for the help everyone. I was able to open them and copy and past the views I needed as WMF images. It worked pretty good on everything except one object.

I saw that Autodesk no longer sells or supports Quickcad so I guess I need to learn something else that I can afford.
