Hi all,

I am new to PLS CADD so please excuse if I am missing something obvious. Any suggestions/help are welcome.
I am trying to create a pls cadd model for a corridor project. I needed to import points from a LIDAR file as well as features from a dxf file in order to have all the ground points and obstacles in the corridor path (ground, vegetation, buildings, roads, fence..). The problem is that the LIDAR points have z values but the z value for dxf points are 0 (as it will be). Hence the profile, 3D and TIN display are affected.
I would like to try applying default z values for each feature code from dxf by editing xyz file. Right now, the only option I see is to edit each and every point.
My question is, is there a way to batch edit xyz points? Or is there any other better way to resolve this?

Thank you,
Sar

I do mostly structural stuff with PLS-CADD and the models are already setup with lidar points. There is a way to do what you want but it is beyond my expertise. I would contact Tech Support at PLS and ask them, or check their web site and see if there is a TechNote describing how to do it.

Export the points to a text file, edit the z coordinate using excel/textpad/emacs, then reimport them into PLS-CADD.

I sent an eMail to PLS asking them to read this forum and reply if they could. They replied that they are hesitant to reply in this forum because they could not verify if the question came from someone who was paying for maintenance. I can understand since this forum is meant for users helping other users and not to be tech support for companies. The PLS crew said the OP did contact them and they gave him/her a solution.

Although it is a little over my head, their solution was:

I assume that the DXF points you're referring to have been created using Terrain/Edit/Merge Points from External File/Create XYZ or PFL points From DXF or SHP Attachment...
If so, what I recommend doing is creating a TIN surface after importing your LiDAR data using just that.
Then you can press the F1 key and navigate to F1/Survey/Terrain Features/Adjust Z of DXF and Shape file entities using Z from TIN and XYZ which will alter the z coordinates of the DXF file's vertices so that they are at the level of the TIN surface.
Then you can create xyz points from the dxf that have z values along the TIN surface.
