Hello,

Appreciate the help of material engineer in here that could help me in my current problem now with my work.

Currently we found out that one of the pipe (material = SS 316L)during boroscopic inspection is already starting to build up corrosion. Is it ok that we use acetone (Dimethly Ketone (DMK), 2-propanone to remove the corrosion? Please advise

Thank you in advance.

Acetpne will have no effect on 316. It will also have no effect on corrosion products. It will be effective on certain organic residues.

Is there build up, or is there corrosion?
The solvents will not hurt the 316.
And they might remove any deposits.
But solvents will not remove corrosion products.
If you have corrosion then you will need something stronger to remove corrosion products.
at least a chelating agent, and perhaps acids.
