Is it possible for any metal or metal alloy spring material to be weakened by immersing it in MEK (Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone) lets say for up to 20 hours?

I have posted a companion thread to this on the Aircraft engineering forum of eng-tips thread2-214189.

I will hold-off posting on the Chemical engineering forum in case there are sufficient answers here.

As long as the solvent is only MEK, then there won't be any problems.

Thank you for your replies. I stand corrected and apologize. I did re-read the policy before double posting to make sure of the "correct" protocol but I understand IR's objections with points well taken. Double posting will not come from here again.

No need for any more input but feel free to do so if you like.

CoryPad's response is more than adequate for now because his expertise is trustworthy.

Thank you again everyone. This forum can be a valuable tool if used responsibly.

MEK was widely used as a solvent for cleaning parts prior to brazing and other sensitive operations. The MEK itself is not a problem. There may be various residuals of other materials dissolved in ti that could be a problem, but I doubt it.
