Dear All,

what should be the % of silicon and phospherous in substrate for Hot dip galvanising ?

Does it have an effect of grey shade and over coating in HDG ?

And what is the appropriate hot rolled low carbon sheet for hot dip galvanising as per ASME or ASTM ? Please help .............

There are many papers/articles available on internet for galavanization of hot rolled and cold rolled sheets. Si killed steel cause increased thickness of galvanized layer. See attached file for a tabular comparison but you will find many articles relating to these.

For ASME and ASTM difference, ASME is same as ASTM however is taken from ASTM specifically for pressure vessel design. All the ASME material shall fully comply to ASTM requirements.

All the ASME material shall fully comply to ASTM requirements.

Incorrect statement. ASTM is not the same as ASME. There can be differences where ASME material specification takes exception to ASTM specification.

@metengr: is it not true that All ASME are taken from ASTM and fully comply to ASTM.
I agree that ASME material may have some modifications so ASTM may not fully comply to ASME but vice-versa is true.

Please advise as this is my conclusion from other threads on this issue.

If the ASME spec has had modifications, how can it fully comply with the ASTM spec? What if a paragraph was added or deleted from the ASME Specification? Would it still fully comply with ASTM specification? You need to check Sec. II Part A to see if the specs are identical or not. It will clearly state what the differences are on the title page of each spec....or will state "identical with ASTM spec..."

Thanks david.. What I meant by fully complied is ASME would not delete any requirement from ASTM but may add to it..

In any case thanks for your response.. I will check in Sec 2 Part A...
