Hi All

No design criteria here just general information
Does anyone have any white papers or information on the effect of irregularity's on the gear tooth profile, such as vibration, wear and any concerns.

Thanks in Advance

These profile "irregularities" are generally referred to as transmission errors when they occur at the mesh. The NASA Technical Reports Server has lots of excellent papers on the subject. There are also some good articles linked here.

The paper you linked only covers spur gears. But TE is also a concern with other gear forms such as helical, spiral bevel, etc. Besides noise/vibration, another significant concern when the gears operate at high PLV is dynamic tooth loads. Spur gear meshes tend to have lower contact ratios than similar helical gear meshes, which reduces the problem of dynamic tooth load at high PLV. For this reason, spur gears are rarely used at a PLV above 10K ft/min. AGMA 2001-D04 section 8 discusses "internally generated gear tooth loads which are induced by non-conjugate meshing action of the gear teeth."
