Hi all,

I really hope you can help me on this particular problem:
I'm having hard times on getting the elasticity modules "E" of some steels:
* S355J0, at 20°C
* 30CrNiMo8, at 20°

In fact, the calculations I've got to perform are a bit susceptible on this value of "E", but I can't manage to get univoque and "universally-accepted" values...
MathWeb has not provided to be a good resource, and neither Stahlschluessel.

Thank you in advance,
regards

Hi,
thank you Swall, but the answer you provide doesn't help me because it doesn't distinguish between the two materials I asked about. They do are different (in particular, alloy steel 30CrNiMo8 has a very strongly temperature-dependent "E") and I'm really looking for reliable values AT 20 [°C], without of course having to ask a supplier for a stress-strain curve. Well, this last thing is an option, but I'd prefer finding other ways before... ;-)

cbrn,

Both of those alloys will have essentially the same elastic modulus at 20 [°]C - around 207 GPa or 30 million psi (within ~ 5 %). Elastic modulus can vary based on preferred crystallographic orientation, and with measurement method. I doubt your analysis will be compromised using this value. If you need to know it more precisely, you will need to conduct testing on actual parts.

Regards,

Cory
