I am in the process of designing a continuous electric annealer, to be added to an existing multi-die wire drawing machine. The drawn product is copper and my question concerns the square-root relationship between line speed and output voltage to the primary of the annealer's power transformer.Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I notice that no one in this forum has jumped on this question.

I suggest that you repost it on the Metal and Metallurgical Eng. forum as some of the guys that lurk there are involved in tube manufacturing, and they use continuous electric annealers.

If there is a linear relationship between power transformer Voltage and Watts Output Power than the relation ship between Line Speed and Voltage will have a square root relationship.
The Power in a circuit that follows Ohm's law increases as the Square of the Voltage. If you double the line speed and need twice as much Power, than increasing the Voltage by the root of two will double the power. Likewise, for triple line speed increase the Voltage by the root of three for triple the power.

Design of an annealer is dependant on many factors. The Annealing voltage U=Square Root of the speed in m/sec multiplied by the annealing voltage factor should be ajustable in order to control the elongation of the copper wire being drawn. Preheating should also be concidered befor the annealing stage.
