quick question

anyone know why people always use D.C motors in electric bike? whats wrong with A.C?

Comment: DC motors are used because they:
1. Result in a lower part count
2. Have simpler speed control
3. Have lower overall weight
4. Occupy smaller overall space
5. Result in higher overall efficiency
6. Result in higher overall reliability
7. Etc.

does anyone know of any suitable speed control circuits for my project? i was hoping to make my own rather than buy one

Suggestion: Resonant zero switched/crossed converters or motor drives tend to be very efficient. There are appearing on Web sites and in IEEE journals.
