Who do you guys use for electric clutching pulleys on a belt drive system? We have a diesel engine belt driving a vacuum pump and a wash down pump but we dont want the wash down pump running all the time. We'd like to have it swtiched on an electric clutch so the operator can turn it on and off at his convenience.

Google "Pitts Clutch".

Of course there are others.

Take a look at an automotive a/c compressor clutch if you need ~2kW at 2000 rpm

2kW? Wow, I had no idea the a/c compressor took so much power. Thanks Greg.

That's engine rpm not pulley. Yes, a full size car system can provide 3 kW of cooling at 1500 pulley rpm. i don't know what the figure of merit of an automotive HVAC is, 2-4?

here's the details of a clutch
