We had issues with motor brake failure after like replacement the original was a single voltage 460v motor with a rectifier that was wired for full bridge to the brake coil this was in service for ten years the brake coil went out we replace the motor and brake as one the new motor is a dual voltage 240/460v it was wired the same as the original motor the brake lasted two weeks we found our mistake in wiring the brake rectifier it should have been wired half wave my question is could the original motor brake been a 480v DC ? this seemed likely to us because of the single voltage motor rating and by wiring the replacement as original it is rated only 240 DC the replacement brake coil is marked AC 480v

If the brake is rated for AC it will quickly burn out on the same voltage DC.

As I recall, when you have a brake on a dual voltage motor, you have two sets of terminals for the brake coil as well. The brake motor mfr would not require you to feed a different voltage to the brake (unless you wanted it that way, i.e. you are running the motor with a VFD).

If 480 Volt rated brake is being fed 240 volts tapped off of the motor windings it may not disengage completely. That will lead to burn out.
An AC rated coil will generally burn out if fed the same voltage DC.
