Electrical Engineering aids, docs, checklists

I'm a electrical/controls technician that has been given the responsibilites of spec'ing drives, motors, breakers, fuses, marking up existing standard elec drawings, putting together a BOM, panel layout, changing standard configuration etc...

I started to put together a "checklist" in MS WOrd I can use to follow through on each piece of machinery I start engineering. I thought I would ask in here if there is something in the way of a doc. or excel file or some other means that already exists that I can have a copy to use?

If anyone has a pdf file or other information pertaining to the engineering process, what I described above, I would appreciate that as well.

Before reinventing the wheel, read up on already established best practices. I would suggest "Engineering Documentation Control Handbook" by Frank Watts. It is in depth, but you have been asked to accomplish task which are not at all shallow. Suggesting that you read the book cover-to-cover at least once is entirely reasonable. Although the book mentions this, let me emphasize that you should endeavor to specify to your own design criteria or to established standards rather than to simply list manufacturer's part numbers. Listing manufacturer's part numbers is sometimes the only way to do it, but always try to wiggle out of doing that. Most of all, read the book!
