Hello everyone!

My name is Gustavo and I work at a Steelmill plant here in Brazil.

We need to untangle our rebar bundle to reduce the time wasted. Today we do it manually with two operators, but it demands time and effort, increasing possible injures that they can suffer.

We looked up at the internet and found a machine that has a module that does just that, but they don't sell it separately. We want to do something similar, but I'm having trouble determining which electrical motor can support that amount of reversing under a minute.

This is the link for the video . It's in the first 18 seconds of video (sorry but I can't upload any file from my work's internet).

But basically we have a chain table that shakes the rebar forward and backward, and also we have a vibrating motor to vibrate the table, helping with the unentanglement process.

Which motor will successfully do the job?

Best regards to everyone!

Gustavo

There are bar and tube untanglers that are sold commercially.
This is a fairly basic motion control project. There are many motor/controller packages on the market to do things like this.

EdStainless, thanks for your reply.

I think that not any motor could handle reversing this much in under a minute. I'll use a VFD, but can I use any kind of motor?

You will need one designed for motion control applications.
Because you will need to control position, acceleration and deceleration as well as speed.
This may be a stepper motor or it may be different style.
You need to find a motion control specialist to work with in selecting it.
Regular motors, even inverter duty ones will not cut it.
