Can anyone help me on selecting a good Electrical Schematic Software. I'm looking to go back and forth between SW and MDT. Probably in dxf or dwg format. Is there an add-on for SW that I can use? Will Visio work?

Thanks,

macduff

SW told me that Visio will work. I have not seen it, but I am trying to get it to use. Right now I import DXF from OrCad.

SW Routing is suppose to support Electrical Connections. I know it's not in there right now, but it should be in there soon.

[blue]Macduff[/blue], Visio Pro (or Visio 2003) will work, if you've done your diagrams in Viso first. What we have been doing where I work is to just Cut & Paste the schematics and wiring diagrams from AutoCAD and OrCAD and placing them into SW Drawings as blocks.

Also, SW Routing only covers the modeling aspects. If you want nailboard data/ability, that will come in SW Harnessing (at additional cost).

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

If you have Visio Technical or Pro to go with your SolidWorks there is a little known command "Insert Schematic" that will embed a Visio document right inside your SolidWorks drawing sheets.
I am not sure why, but the end effect seems a little better than you get manually with inserting an OLE object. There was a joint promotion for 2001 Plus, but for various reasons it didn't catch on.
Otherwise there are 3 or 4 packages from Europe that export DWG files with blocks, which will import very well into your drawing sheets.

DesignSmith,
Is Visio Technical or Pro pretty accurate as far as the geometry of electrical schematics? Which one do you reccomend to buy?

Thanks for all your input!

Have a great weekend![smile]

Designsmith,
I found a copy of Visio 5.0 Tech. Will it work with windows xp and sw 2004?
