Hi Everyone

I am bit concerned about secondry seal. I am invloved in a project(Alberta-Canada) where processing/mechnical depratment is requesting me to add secondry seal on the electrical equipment. My answer to them is electrical can only provide secondry seal if the intruments is not being purchased with single or dual seal. Can someone pls explain me what are the seconday seal requirements and how electrical is responsible for that. Is secondary seal is related to Hazrdous area classification i.e if class 1 Div 1 then seal required etc.? What is the rule of thub. A quick answer will be highly appreciated and this a great learning forum. Thanks in advance.

What kind of equipment?
Skid mount or fixed?
Do they want conduit seals where conduits pass from one zone to another?
You often see; conduit, a seal on the end of the conduit, an explosion proof junction box and then an instrument, with whatever seals are provided with the instrument.

With this arrangement, instruments may be swapped out without having to pour seals. Pouring seals outdoors may be problematic in Alberta this time of year.
Temp at some of the oil sands plants dropped to -30C one day this week.

Thanks for tne feed back.
It is skid mount equipment. The vendor of the skid is suggesting that if area class is calss I zone 2 still secondary seal required and I don't agree to vendor comments as seconday seal has nothing to do with area class (i guess. Yes as you mentioned conduit seal is required.
